NEVILLE frank LONGBOTTOM
** 23 -- HERBOLOGY PROFESSOR -- ENGLISH -- SINGLE **
"I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I'm meant to be, this is me"
Neville Longbottom's story has become quite well-known throughout Britain's wizarding society. After all, it's tied up intimately with the story of Harry Potter, the Second Wizarding War, and the demise of Lord Voldemort. Some people even believe that, in the end, Neville was the subject of the original prophecy, but it really doesn't matter either way at this point. They saved everybody, they graduated from school, and then they found themselves in a world that, in theory, was entirely theirs. What to do in it, though?
For Neville's part, he was surprised to be approached with an offer to train as an Auror. Quite frankly, he didn't have the grades for it, given the fact that he'd been such a late bloomer on the academic front. But, as it turned out, Kingsley Shacklebolt was interested in students who had fought in the Battle of Hogwarts, and Neville got his opportunity to follow in his parents' footsteps.
He wanted to enjoy it more than he did. He truly put in monumental effort. He worked incredibly hard to master the skills, and every weekend when he visited his parents, he told them about his progress. He was a good Auror, there was no doubt about it. The problem was that there was a large part of him that yearned for something different: plants and peace and home. He'd been fighting for so long, and though he was willing and able to keep it up, he longed for release.
Professor Sprout actually contacted him directly when she decided it was time to retire. He'd spent nearly five years as an Auror, and he'd finally admitted to himself that maybe it was all right-- maybe he wouldn't be disrespecting his parents-- if he didn't stick with that profession. So now he's in his first year of teaching at Hogwarts, and nothing has ever felt more right.
