KJERSTIN rebecka ALVAREZ
** TWENTY-THREE -- BAKER -- GERMAN -- SINGLE **
"I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I'm meant to be, this is me"
The majority of Kjerstin's young life is something she doesn't remember much past brief flashes of memory. She was born in Mexico, her mother's third child, eventually one of five siblings. Her life was nowhere near close to perfect ever, her biological mother struggled to support her and her siblings and her biological father had never been in the picture, let alone around to help out. Things didn't get much better when Kjerstin began to exhibit bits of accidental magic, and her mother had no idea what was going on as a muggle. Soon enough Kjerstin had become the neighborhood "freak." From there it didn't take too long for things to become too much for her mother. With so many accidental outburst with no obvious cause within the year little five year old Kjerstin was ushered into the orphanage by her mother and older siblings. As much as she was loved, there was no way for her mother to support her and her siblings on top of whatever allowances she would have had to make for her littlest daughter. Shortly after the turbulence of being abandoned at the orphanage she was scooped out by the Adoption Branch of the International Confederation of Wizards, a little muggleborn couldn't be allowed to wander about exposing them to muggles, especially with less than stellar control of her magic.
At that point she was passed from foster home to foster home, landing across Britain and France before finally at the age of nine being adopted by a nice older German half-blood couple, Helena and Roderick. The years preceding the adoption had been a whirlwind of confusion and seemingly insurmountable language barriers. Every time she began to pick the local language up well enough she was shipped off again; by her years at Durmstrang Institute Kjerstin was fluent in Spanish and German, and doing fairly well with English and French. She learned to cling to the languages, just in case she ended up being uprooted again. Her new family had seemed too good to be true and while she desperately enjoyed their company and praise she never knew how much longer it was going to last so, as much as she was clinging to them she held herself apart. Most of her time with Helena, and the extent of their bonding, was spent standing over the oven giggling maniacally and tossing flower at each other. Something which they eventually came back to, each and every break from school - when she wasn't spending time with Roderick holed reading. Still, as much as they were here parents it was always a bit surreal for Kjerstin.
There was no question of whether or not Kjerstin would receive her letter to Durmstrang, where she did excel. While she hid herself away in the library and little corners for most of her time at the school, Kjerstin did end up making rather good friends with the house elves and a few of her classmates. She did end up having an odd dynamic with Viktor Krum, who was a few years older than her given her being utterly oblivious to his fame, and the fact that he enjoyed taking off with the sweets she had made with the aid of the house elves. Past that, Kjerstin kept more or less to herself unless she was being dragged off to various study groups so her friends could pick her brain. By the end of her school years her relationship with Helena and Roderick was more cordial than anything. Sure, they were her parents and in some ways she had adored them Kjerstin hadn't felt like their home was hers, something which became more evident when she spent most of the year away at Durmstrang.
Kjerstin graduated from Durmstrang at the top of her class and returned come to Helena and Roderick utterly unsure of what she was meant to do with herself now. They let her dwell on that for a summer before Helena was shoving her off to work at a wizarding bakery in Munich. She hadn't been a fan of the idea at first but being able to do something she enjoyed consistently. She spent the next two years working in Munich and living at home before she decided to spread her wings and move to Zurich to work at another more developed bakery. Moving on was nerve wracking but she had longed to find her own little slice of the world. It was also where she met her best friend Cleo. For Kjerstin, getting out of her shell was perhaps one of the most difficult things, even though it turned out to be more than worth it.
Moving on at Cleo's prodding to open the Dough Knot with her was something that had her calling home to the only mother she had ever known, only to be told to go for it (she shouldn't have been expecting anything else). So, Kjerstin took the leap and made the move to Britain, ready to embrace this new direction - and figure out exactly how she's meant to help run the backery.
+ Intuitive - she likes figuring things out for herself, and trying new things is her groove
+ Creative - experimentation and mixing things up is her idea of fun, frosting things is absolutely amazing and her flowers are amazing
+ Helpful - she will try as much as she can to help people out, but she does have a back bone
+ Dedicated - once she sets her mind to something she'll keep at it until she gets it right
+ Nervous - hanging out with new people isn't her forte, and she isn't so confident in her own decisions
+ Bookish - give her a good book and some cocoa and she will be good all night
+ Amiable - she's good with customers and will go the extra mile to please them, and with people she's close to
+ Indecisive - be it not knowing her next life decision, or making hundreds of different test cupcakes
+ Self-reliant - she's used to figuring things out to herself, so it can be a bit difficult for her to accept help at first
